McKnight Homecoming
The Big Dinner:
Always the last Sunday in September, the McKnight Homecoming is a time to reunite with family and friends, pay respects to those who have gone before us, and to enjoy great food. Also known as the “Big Dinner” because of the tremendous amount of food brought to the event for families to share, it is a wonderful time of fellowship.
Plan ahead to fix your favorite covered dish, grab some lawn chairs and join us at the next McKnight Homecoming.
Fundraiser:
The Homecoming also serves as a fundraiser for the McKnight Cemetery Association to continue upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery.
If you cannot join us, please consider making a donation from this website.
What to bring:
- Covered dish or dessert. Whether you grab something on the way or you prepare a family recipe, bring a hardy amount because there’s a good chance family members will want a sample.
- All the fixins. Pack it like a picnic with everything you may need to serve up your favorites.
- Lawn chairs/table. Chairs are a must, but some families also bring folding tables to be able to put their food on something.
- Ice/drinks. Many families bring ice and drinks, but often times drinks are sold as part of fundraising efforts.
- Flowers/flags. Please feel free to bring artificial flowers and flags to place at grave markers. Many families will check on and maintain grave markers at this annual gathering.
- Family. Encourage family to join us to keep these events going strong.
- Checkbook/cash. Bring a form of payment to donate to the cemetery fund and participate in the other fundraisers.
